Policy for ophthalmology consultation in suspected non-accidental trauma
Department of Ophthalmology
University of Kentucky
July 1, 2021
Rationale: To provide a guideline on appropriate circumstances to consult ophthalmology in patients with suspect non-accidental trauma. Recent literature1 and our internal review of data2 demonstrate the significant association between abnormal neuroimaging and presence of retinal hemorrhages.
Policy: Please consult ophthalmology for screening exams only in patients with positive intracranial imaging findings.
